Twenty years from now
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
Lately it’s been quiet on my blog and there’s exactly one reason for it: Christmas time! For the work at J.E.E.P. it means not really a lot of things to do as everybody is preparing to go out of Kampala to their homes in the different regions of Uganda. And for the Christmas time in general there should be at least something to write over here in the capital of Uganda, BUT: it is not.
In a country with about 85% being Christian one should assume that there is a lot of celebration going on. People prepare for the day of the days, the birthday of Jesus Christ, decorating the streets, houses, Christmas trees..They come together for the truly quiet, calm and sensual Christmas time…And that is exactly what is NOT happening. Believe me. If it is Christmas or not. You wont even see a difference! Kampala just did not change at all and the only things about Christmas you will find here are in the large supermarkets in town. No change on the streets, no special lights and decoration…And not that I hate it: IT IS PERFECT GUYS
And because of what? Ugandans are just looking forward to the holy eve with a REAL Christmas not being commercialized yet.
As from tomorrow, our NGO is in vacation. That means for me: TRAVELLING WOOOHOO! I will go to Fort Portal to visit another German volunteer and have a great time at the crater lakes over there. Will be lovely! That does mean at the same time that I wont be able to write any blogposts for you over Christmas and New Years Eve but anyway: I will collect a whole bunch of new photos for you guys and bring some new stories from the wonderful country of Uganda!
So..for now…MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!
We are social…JEEP Facebook Page
JEEP tries to be social and stay in contact with all people around the world to broaden their mind about environmental issues. As Facebook is as important as it was never before to reach the mass, I created a new Facebook Page to briefly inform interested folks directly on Facebook about what JEEP is doing to work for a green Uganda. Have a look at our page at facebook.com/jeepfolkecenter!
Sunset at JEEP
Last week at work. Focusing on my laptop for hours, I did not realize that it was already 7pm. Perfect time for some shots of the sunset with my new camera lens.
Ugandan Scouts – Kaazi National Campsite
As I have been a boy scout in Germany for over 15 years, I wanted to stay in contact with scouts even here in Uganda. Thus I contacted the Uganda Scouts Association on my arrival, just to check whether there are some scout activities to be found in Uganda. As it turned out there are and so I went on my first small trip with the head administration of the national scout association. … Weiterlesen →
A Liter of Light
Millions of families in developing countries still live in the dark. Even at day dozens of homes lack of light because they are easy built without any windows and remain powerless.
A few weeks ago I came across a really nice project called “A Liter of Light”:
‘MyShelter Foundation’ envisions sharing to underprivileged communities an economically- and ecologically-sustainable source of light that will provide an immediate solution to our fellowmen’s problems.
In their project “A Liter of Light” the foundation is promoting and caring out a sustainable lighting project which aims to bring an eco-friendly solar bottle bulb to disprivileged communities on the Philippines. The solar bottle bulb is a contraption made from recyclable PET bottles, CG corrugated sheets and a solution of water, chlorine and salt. By using these readily available materials, the project is empowering the population to be able to utilize a cheap and long-term alternative to electric light.
Once being aware about this project whilst travelling through Uganda, I really wanted to integrate it sooo much into JEEP. Especially after having seen all the dark rooms and houses on the field trip to Mbale and on the trip to the middle of nowhere, I wanted to press this project ahead in Uganda.
So here we are. Today we installed the first solar bottle bulb in our bottle house as a test installation to see how it works and to see if we can reach the power of 55 Watts as “A Litre of Light” is telling..
Spending a weekend in the middle of nowhere
Right after our field trip to Mbale I was able to visit Arne and Nina, two Solivol volunteers who are staying near Bududa at the slopes of Mount Elgon. It was quite interesting to see how they are living in such a simple way without power and water supply, far away from any civilization. We spent a great time over there enjoying the nature and environment including a day trip to the cliffs of Mount Wanale, walking like 30km through great environment and lots of bizarre and colourful rock formations where people live really decentralized in small self-built mud houses. After joining two remote lagoons … Weiterlesen →

Alles geben!
